On Saphan Loy’s Radar…

Posted by RealDaffyDuck on March 19, 2011

“Unhinged”, “Deranged”, “Mental Ill”, “Loose Cannon” – these are just some of the choice words that Saphan Loy uses to describe Kenny and his multi-alias’d crusade against his imaginary enemies.

Disgraced CSUN Economics Professor Kenneth Ng has certainly managed to come to the attention of several well-known and well-visited bloggers of the Thailand blogosphere, yet nevertheless still fails in his desperate endeavor to get any of them to make an appearance on his blog – heck, Stickman couldn’t care less about Kenny, neither could Pattaya Ghost, and he is barely good enough for some laughs on Saphan Loy’s site.

The one thing I have to say, though – I would never have known about some of these bloggers if not for disgraced CSUN Economics Professor Kenneth Ng commenting derisively about them, and impersonating them on his site. Then again, his way of deriding the Big Mango Bar has so far only resulted in bringing new customers to the Big Mango (and the Duke pub, as well).

Maybe we should have another post about our stats and how we are doing with regards to visitors to our site – how about it, BigDummy, do you feel up to it?

    At this point it’s impossible to think of anyone less important or worthy of time and effort than disgraced CSUN Economics Professor Kenneth Ng.

    And yet this whole blog and it’s incessant bitching is only about Kenny?

    I don’t get it.

    Just sayin like 🙂

    is Saphan Loy your new site?

    Not much on it eh?

    @ Reality – It’s not incessant bitching, it’s poking fun at him. Interesting name you have there. Let’s look at the ‘reality’ of things.

    If you look at the top ten read list today you’ll see that 7 of the 10 have nothing to do with Kenny:

    * Gotta agree with BangkokBuddy!
    * Raider: But My Thai Girl Is Different – Part 1of3
    * Waaaaaaaay down Soi 4
    * On Saphan Loy’s Radar…
    * Drill Man: She Didn’t Want To Be A Bar Girl
    * Regular Cheesecake
    * BigBlackGulliver: Laos Business Adventure (Part 1)
    * Visa Runs: Ho Hum High Season
    * SBDOTKU: Return to Man Heaven (Part 1)
    * He Read Stickman And Still Doesn’t Get It…

    If you look at the last 20 posts you’ll note less than half concern Kenny.

    I should add that this site was founded as a parody site of BBK.COM, so the reason you don’t get it is most likely because you missed the early history of this website before Kenny exercised the ultimate form of censorship and wiped his website.

    If all this puts you off nobody’s preventing you from exercising your web surfing options.

    Now, to answer your question about the Saphan Loy website (Wait, should I?. If I were running this site like BBK I wouldn’t answer your question.), it was not created by the admin of BigDummyKenny.

    By the way, it’s not “incessant bitching”. You missed the thank you to Kenny:

    I appreciate what you’re saying BDK

    but once again I have to say that this site doesn’t seem to be about anything – apart from running kenny from bbk.com

    Just an observation, but maybe things will change.

    Good luck with the blog anyway.

    • “but once again I have to say that this site doesn’t seem to be about anything – apart from running kenny from bbk.com”

      Really, this site is about *nothing else* apart from Kenny? Really?

      Hmmm…. if that is indeed the perception you get from this place, then maybe we should make some changes? Thank you for pointing this out.

      “Just an observation, but maybe things will change.”

      Careful what you wish for…

      Maybe we’ll re-brand as a fan-site for Venezuelan Goat Herders…?

    BDK,

    I’ve enjoy the BigBlackGulliver, Raider and SBDOTKU posts about their experiences in Thailand. I still enjoy reading the old parody pieces from early last year. Also, here you won’t go blind looking at blurred photos.

    I can see that over the past couple months the content on BDK is less concerned with what’s going on with BBK.

    Don’t change anything. You can’t be all things to all people. Some people will never get it.

  7. First, BDK, thank you for the supporting link, the recent kind words and the accompanying jump in traffic. If I may address “Reality”‘s points from the above-commentary: Saphan Loy, which is completely independent of BDK, will make its archives available soon as they are being included in an expanded form for publication. After a generous offer from a publisher, we have agreed to continue our work on those essays (with additional information added in the process) for mutual benefit. This agreement does not preclude me from updating Saphan Loy, however, as this constitutes “new” work independent of the archived materials.

    Secondly, here is the “reality” of the economics professor’s blog. He is an employee of the California State University system and derives his income from the kindness and diligence of the citizens of California. His benefits, retirement package, healthcare and so on, are all funded by the public, in addition to the tuitions paid by out-of-state students. Therefore, he is subject to an entirely different set of criteria as a writer and public persona.

    He has managed to circumvent normal and reasonable limits on the freedom of speech because of an apparent “loophole.” By disguising virulent anti-Semitic, homophobic and racist language through the use of multiple fictional identities, he is able to continue his insane rhetoric without a reasonable countervaling voice.

    Even though Saphan Loy has vowed not to write about that website so as to isolate the site and choke off its readership further, the new depths of insanity it has achieved have compelled me to continue to point out just how outrageously offensive it is (in “reality”) to both English language readers and to the Thai public. Saphan Loy is also hopeful that with BDK’s new-found and deserved success that perhaps BDK will consider a name-change to further dessicate BBK’s readership and end the vile speech of that site.

    Ultimately, we are blogging about brothels….however we choose to spin it.

    • “…that perhaps BDK will consider a name-change to further dessicate BBK’s readership and end the vile speech of that site…”

      It is scary how you seem to be reading our minds… 😉

      Stand by, I have a feeling that there are some changes planned for a BD (minus the ‘K’) site.

    • By the way, seeing as how you mentioned Dean Barrett’s site — I checked it out, and all I could think of was “WTF?”

      Seriously, it’s like a page straight out of the old Geocities empire – early 90’s, at best.

      So, fairly enough, I figure, maybe he’s making a stylistic statement. You know, retro, and all that “good times” stuff.

      So, I look at his source to see what WordPress theme he’s using…. Aaaaaaaaagh!

      1997 called!

      MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE 6.0! (that’s vintage somewhere between 1997 and 1999)

      There’s no hope for this man!

  8. That’s incredible: talk about a “legacy” system (more info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_FrontPage). These “old Media” types, like Barrett or even a site like Bangkok Eyes, just don’t realize the formidable power of new blogging tools and platforms. In an attempt to be charitable, some of these old styles may very well be “artistic” statements in and of themselves.

    By the way, I wonder what Bernard Trink would make of a site like BBK. It’s too bad he didn’t simply continue writing and posting – but I suppose he assumed that writing for the Internet was doomed, rightly or wrongly. When I met him in BKK in 2005, he seemed totally defeated about the loss in revenue. It was really the Bangkok Post’s worst editorial decision in the end. There was no other reason to buy that paper on Fridays…

    • RealDaffyDuck said

      What was the reason for his firing, or rather, what was the *real* reason he was let go, I wonder? I mean, we all know the official statement.

      Pity about Trink, because with a bit of clever design work, and regular content, he could very easily have generated and maintained a semi-profitable web presence – but as you said, the dinosaur bloggers simply don’t realize the power of the modern blogging tools. (half the time I do site updates sitting at a bistro, or by the pool, or in an airport – wordpress, and iPad, FTW)

    • MongerSEA said

      Trink had a reputation for being a bit of a prima donna and somewhat hard to work with. Also working against him was his refusal to join the computer age. He would deliver typewritten columns with the expectation that it was someone else’s job to keypunch them.

      The attempt he made to set up his own site was embarrassing. Both a subscription model and an ad-based model were tried and neither suited him. Any comment would be superfluous…

      What really worked against him though was his own sense of ethics. He refused to shill for anyone and was thus partially supplanted by others with lower standards.

  9. Sounds to me this Kenny fella is a little jealous of this Graham fella. Its kinda obvious.
